לדקל מרשים זה שמקורו בסוואנות של ברזיל ואורוגאיי, יש נוף רחב מתעגל עדין מטה עם ענפים נוצתיים מעט קשיחים ירוקים כחלחלים.

זהו דקל חזק העמיד בתנאי יובש וקור. פרותיו הצהובים עגולים בצורתם, ואכילים. שמו העממי "דקל הג'לי" מרמז על המנהג המקומי לייצר מפרותיו יין וריבה.

הבוטיה קפיטטה זקוק למיקום בשמש מלאה ואדמה מנוקזת, על מנת להתפתח למלוא הדרו. למרות זאת יהיה הבוטיה עמיד לאדמה חרסית וגירית.

גזעו החום מגיע עד 5 מטרים ורוחב נופו ל5-6 מטרים.

הבוטיה קפיטטה נוטה ליצור הכלאות והיברידים עם בני משפחת הבוטיה וגם עם משפחת הסיאגרוס (הקוקוס העממי), והוריאנטים מוכרים בעולם הגינון.
 

BUTIA CAPITATA

This Brazil and Uruguay native is a magnificent gracefully arching palm, with bluish green crown with somewhat hardy feather fronds.

It is a strong palm surviving well in cold dry areas. Its attractive orange color and rounded edible fruit give it its common name "The Jelly Palm", hinting that jelly and wine can be made out of its fruit.

The Butia Capitata will need a sunny location and well drained soil to reach its best potential, and will also do fairly well in limey or clayish soils.

It may reach up to 5 meters of trunk, and 5-6 meters widespread of its crown.

This palm is able to hybridize with a close relative in the Butia family, as well as with distant relatives in the Syagrus family to create many variations.
